After
moving from the east coast in 1994 to northwest Ohio, by chance
I found the 577 Foundation – a non-profit facility located
in Perrysburg dedicated to art and nature. It was there that I had
my first exposure to clay. I remained there for several years, learning
my craft. While I am still involved in the arts as a photographer
and painter clay was then a new medium for me. However, since that
first day I have done everything I can to become a better potter,
having participated in classes, and attending many seminars and
workshops. In that vein, I’ve recently been involved in learning
the intricacies of wood firing – with a concentration on Native
American-style pottery. My work, however, is primarily functional
in nature – creating bowls, casseroles, storage containers
and some decorative pieces.
In
2009 one of my works, “Nebula” was chosen for display
at “Earth: Form and Function” at the Center for Visual
Arts, University of Toledo. Currently, I’m an active member
of the Toledo Potters’ Guild.
